Set up Inventory for your outlet

Before your team can count, order and log waste, Inventory needs your cost centres, suppliers, ingredients and recipes. You can hand this to us or do it yourself.

Either way, your POS needs to be connected first, so recipes can use your POS menu items. A Demeter Group Admin does this in Demeter's Settings > Integrations. See Connect your POS.

Option 1: Let the Demeter team do it

Bring your ingredient list to your onboarding meeting with Demeter. Any spreadsheet works, but the sample CSV from the app makes it quickest (Ingredients > Import CSV > Download sample CSV). We import it into your outlet, then you check it and invite your team.

Option 2: Use the setup wizard

The wizard opens the first time you open Inventory.

  1. Click Get started.
  2. Restaurant: enter your restaurant name, legal entity, address, GST Reg No and phone. These appear on your purchase orders.
  3. Cost centres: add each area you count separately, such as Kitchen, Bar or BBQ, and pick how often it's counted: daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
  4. Suppliers, Ingredients and Recipes: for each one, upload your spreadsheet (CSV or XLSX, up to 5 MB), match your columns to Demeter's fields, check the preview and click Import. Not sure of the format? Click Use Sample Data to see it.
  5. Click Open Demeter to finish.

Recipes are optional in the wizard. You can click Skip and build them later.

After setup

  1. Link suppliers to cost centres in Inventory Setting > Supplier Cost Centres.
  2. Invite your team. See Invite your team.
  3. Count everything once. A full count of each cost centre confirms your opening stock before your first day of live use.
