Fix a stock number that looks wrong

If an ingredient's stock doesn't match your shelf, its history will tell you why. Find the cause before you correct the number.

Find the cause

  1. Open Ingredients and click the item.
  2. Go to Transactions and look at what changed the stock and when.
  3. Compare it with the usual causes below.

Usual causes

  • Sales took too much or too little. A recipe quantity or unit is off. Check the recipes that use this item.
  • Wrong unit conversion. Per stock unit doesn't match reality, such as 100 instead of 1000 g per kg.
  • Missing waste. Something was thrown away but not logged.
  • Missing delivery. Goods arrived but weren't received against the PO, or were received twice.
  • Counted in the wrong unit. Someone counted grams where the stock unit is kg.

Correct it

  1. Fix the cause first, such as the recipe, the unit conversion or the missing delivery.
  2. Run a count of that cost centre to bring the stock back in line. See Run a stock count.
  3. For a one-off fix, use Adjust stock on the item and add a note explaining why.
